Registered Charity

MARS is a registered charity which exists in order to deliver enhanced immediate medical care to the people of Herefordshire and Worcestershire. MARS provides the organisational framework within which practitioners can continue to be properly trained and equipped; all this is supported by local fundraising.

Chief Executive of the West Midlands Ambulance Service, Anthony Marsh said: "The expertise and commitment of the pre-hospital practitioners that form the Mercia Accident Rescue Scheme, provide invaluable support to our highly trained paramedics in the most serious incidents. I very much appreciate the commitment they give to enhance our service across Herefordshire and Worcestershire and thank all those who support them through local fundraising.”

All members of the MARS immediate care scheme are accredited full members of BASICS and holders of the Diploma in Immediate Medical Care awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Many are examiners for the DIMC RSC Ed.

How is MARS Funded

MARS is funded by charitable donation. WMAS NHS Trust provide some disposable equipment Worcestershire PCT provide funding for some of our drugs, the bulk of equipment is funded from public donation.

At the moment, we are lucky in having attracted enthusiastic and well qualified members, and currently have three going through training. What is needed is financial support to ensure that they are fully equipped for the role. Donations are also needed to ensure the future development of MARS.

All donations are welcome, no matter how small.
